LONDON (AFP) - British mobile phone giant Vodafone announced Tuesday that it will distribute Apple's iPhone in 10 new countries including Australia, India and South Africa.

Vodafone said in a statement that under its accord with Apple, it will also have the right to sell iPhones in the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal and Turkey.

The phones that it sells will be intended to work on the Vodafone network.

Launched one year ago, officially the iPhone is only available in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Ireland and Austria.

"Vodafone today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe" in 2008, the British group said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The news failed to lifted Vodafone's share price, however, as it fell 0.86 percent to 162.10 pence in early London trading.
